Molina Michigan Transportation: Ride Lines, the Genesee County Rule, and Who Books the Trips

Molina Healthcare of Michigan members book rides through Transportation Member Services at 888-898-7969, 24 hours a day, or the ride line at 888-616-4842, three business days ahead, a rule waived in Genesee County. MDHHS listed MTM Health on that ride line in May 2026. By September 2026, SafeRide Health listed it for Molina of Michigan Medicaid members, so apply to both.

  • Molina members in its 52 Lower Peninsula counties book at 888-898-7969 or 888-616-4842, and most must call three business days ahead.
  • In Genesee County, MDHHS waives Molina's notice rule, so Flint-area Molina trips can arrive on short notice.
  • Molina puts car seats on the transportation provider, the opposite of Blue Cross Complete's rule.
  • MDHHS named MTM Health for Molina in May 2026, but SafeRide Health listed the same ride line by September 2026, so hold both agreements.
  • Molina made a switch like this in Texas, where SafeRide replaced Access2Care and MTM on April 1, 2026 on the plan's existing line.

Molina Healthcare of Michigan, with its offices on Woodward Avenue in Detroit, is one of the state’s largest Medicaid plans. CMS counted 319,945 of its members in Michigan’s main Medicaid program and 87,284 in the Healthy Michigan Plan on July 1, 2024, when Molina served all 68 Lower Peninsula counties. Molina does not dispatch vans. Its ride vendor books the trips and passes them to local companies, and in 2026 the name behind that vendor’s line has been changing. Michigan’s statewide rules, from vehicle registration to CHAMPS, are in the Michigan guide.

Molina Michigan transportation phone numbers

Molina members have two lines for rides:

Line Number What it does
Transportation Member Services 888-898-7969 (TTY 711) Books rides and mileage reimbursement, 24 hours a day, seven days a week
Ride vendor direct line 888-616-4842 The vendor’s own booking line, as MDHHS listed it in May 2026

The 888-898-7969 number is also Molina’s Member Services line, and MDHHS’s list sends members there for same-day or next-day rides to urgent care. Molina’s transportation page, last updated January 23, 2026, asks members to call three business days before the appointment with their member ID card at hand.

Who books Molina rides: MTM Health or SafeRide Health

The 888-616-4842 line has carried three company names in a year:

When Source Company named on 888-616-4842
October 2025 Molina’s 2025 Medicaid provider manual Access2Care, which MTM Health finished buying in October 2024
May 14, 2026 MDHHS health plan ride list MTM Health (Medical Transportation Management, Inc.)
September 2026 SafeRide Health’s Molina of Michigan Medicaid pages SafeRide Health, which books trips and registers mileage drivers on it

MTM’s own member app page still listed Molina Medicaid in Michigan among its plans in September 2026. Molina has made this kind of change before. Its Texas notice said SafeRide would replace Access2Care and MTM for Molina’s Texas Medicaid rides on April 1, 2026, on the same phone number, with booked rides moved over automatically.

For a transportation company, the safe answer is to hold both agreements:

  • Already with MTM? Ask your vendor account manager whether Molina trips continue in your counties, and for how long. Keep the agreement either way, because MDHHS’s May 2026 list also shows MTM booking for Blue Cross Complete, Aetna Better Health of Michigan, HAP CareSource, and UnitedHealthcare Community Plan. See Blue Cross Complete transportation.
  • Not yet with SafeRide? Apply. In Michigan, SafeRide also books Meridian and Priority Health rides, so one SafeRide agreement could reach three plans.

For what a vendor change does to trips already on your schedule and to claims still unpaid, see NEMT broker transitions and working with more than one broker.

Notice rules and the Genesee County exception

Molina asks for three business days of advance notice. MDHHS’s list, revised May 14, 2026, gives the rule as 3 days, then adds a county exception no other plan on the list has: the requirement is waived for members located in Genesee County.

So a Molina member around Flint can call for a routine ride with less than three days’ notice. If you run in Genesee County, expect short-notice Molina trips and tell your broker contact you can take them. Blue Cross Complete also serves Genesee, where MTM books its members on two business days’ notice.

MDHHS’s list sets three more Molina rules for rides that go wrong or come up fast:

  • Urgent care. Members call Member Services at 888-898-7969 for a same-day or next-day ride.
  • Missed appointments. If the member missed the appointment because of the ride vendor, Member Services can arrange a same-day trip within 2 to 4 hours when possible.
  • Complaints. Most are settled during the call. The rest go through Molina’s formal grievance policy.

Those 2-to-4-hour recovery trips go to whoever can roll a vehicle fast. See same-day NEMT trips and broker rider complaints.

Car seats and extra riders on Molina trips

Molina’s MDHHS entry puts two rules on the transportation company:

  • Extra riders. Additional family members will be transported with the member.
  • Car seats. Transportation providers must comply with state law and provide car seats when needed.

Blue Cross Complete and McLaren, on the same list, tell members to bring their own seats. On a Molina trip, the seat comes from your van.

Michigan’s child restraint law, MCL 257.710d as amended effective April 2, 2025, keeps a child rear-facing until age 2, in a harnessed forward-facing seat until age 5, and in a booster until age 8 or 4 feet 9 inches tall, unless the child outgrows a seat sooner. It seats children in the back when the vehicle has a rear seat, and it does not apply to buses, school buses, or taxicabs. Ask each child’s age and size when the trip comes in, and keep a rear-facing seat, a harnessed seat, and a booster clean and ready. See children in NEMT and escorts and caregivers.

How your company gets Molina trips

  1. Check your area. Molina’s October 2025 provider manual lists 52 Lower Peninsula counties, which match the six Prosperity Regions MDHHS awarded it from October 1, 2024. It skips the Upper Peninsula, Clinton, Eaton, and Ingham around Lansing, the seven Southwest Michigan counties, and Hillsdale, Jackson, Lenawee, Livingston, Monroe, and Washtenaw. Ask the dialysis centers and clinics you serve how many patients carry Molina cards.
  2. Register your vehicles. LARA registers for-hire vehicles with 8 or fewer seats, driver included, under the limousine act. MDOT regulates non-emergency vehicles carrying 9 or more under the Motor Bus Transportation Act. Fees and insurance are in the Michigan guide.
  3. Apply to both brokers. Send SafeRide Health’s signup form and MTM Health’s Letter of Intent. Each checks your insurance, drivers, and vehicles before a first trip. Their rules are on the SafeRide Health and MTM Health pages.
  4. Buy the seats. Stock child seats before you accept Molina family trips.
  5. Ask for Molina volume. Ask each network manager which Molina counties and levels of service are short. In Genesee County, offer short-notice capacity.

Molina’s 2025 Medicaid provider manual names wheelchair accessible vans and litter vans as examples of non-emergency medical transportation. It says vans and taxis need no prior authorization where they are covered, while non-emergency ground and air ambulance trips need Molina’s approval first.

Mileage for Molina members

A Molina member who drives, or has someone drive them, asks for mileage reimbursement at 888-898-7969. As of September 2026, SafeRide Health’s Molina of Michigan Medicaid program sets these rules:

  • The driver registers first, online or with a paper packet. Online registrations take about 72 hours to approve.
  • Every mileage ride is booked with SafeRide at 888-616-4842 before the trip, or it is not paid.
  • The driver holds a valid license, is not excluded from federal health programs, and has no more than two moving violations and no drunk or impaired driving conviction in the past two years.
  • The member and the care provider sign the claim form, and each claim is due within 365 days of the trip.
  • Pay follows the shortest distance, at the mileage rate in effect on the day of the ride.

SafeRide answers mileage questions at 888-616-4842, weekdays 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and by the email in the table below. Meals and lodging on long trips use a separate claim form, with questions to 833-944-0517.
