HealthSpring Moved Its Medicare Advantage Rides from Modivcare to MTM Health on March 1, 2026

On March 1, 2026, MTM Health became the only company arranging non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) for HealthSpring’s Medicare Advantage members, replacing Modivcare. HealthSpring announced the change to health care providers on February 26, 2026. This is a Medicare Advantage change, not a Medicaid one: the rides are an extra benefit that some HealthSpring plans include. Since March 1, a transportation company needs to be in MTM’s network to carry HealthSpring members on plan-paid rides.

HealthSpring’s notice lists two ways to book besides the phone: an account on MTM’s website and the MTM Link Member app for iPhone and Android. MTM’s own notice asked members with trips on March 1 or later to call and confirm those trips were in MTM’s system. HealthSpring said it would send letters to eligible members explaining how to reach MTM.

Who HealthSpring is and which plans include rides

HealthSpring is the Medicare brand of Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC). HCSC bought The Cigna Group’s Medicare Advantage, supplemental benefits, Part D, and CareAllies businesses in March 2025, and those plans now sell as HealthSpring.

Not every HealthSpring plan includes rides. CMS plan benefit data for 2026 lists 224 HealthSpring plans sold to individuals, and 97 of them offer transportation as a supplemental benefit:

In all 97 plans, the member needs authorization, rides go to plan-approved health-related places, and the plan lists taxi, rideshare, van, and medical transport as the ways members can ride. These plans are sold in 25 states. Texas has the most (18 plans), then Georgia (12), Florida (10), Pennsylvania (9), Tennessee (8), and Alabama (7). The others are Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, Utah, and Washington.

Who the change affects

• Companies that drove HealthSpring trips for Modivcare. Those trips stopped coming from Modivcare on March 1. To keep serving the same riders, you need an MTM agreement. Settle any unpaid trips from before March 1 with Modivcare under your agreement. See the Modivcare provider guide.
• Companies already in MTM’s network. HealthSpring adds Medicare Advantage riders to the trips MTM hands out. Ask your MTM contact whether your agreement and counties include HealthSpring members.
• Dialysis centers, clinics, and senior living staff. Staff who call for HealthSpring members still use 1-866-214-5126. Modivcare’s facility pages for Texas, Virginia, and Illinois still list that line for HealthSpring as of September 30, 2026. It is the same number, and MTM answers it now.
• Riders with both Medicare and Medicaid. Federal rules require every state Medicaid program to ensure necessary transportation to and from providers (42 CFR 431.53). A HealthSpring member with full Medicaid benefits can still use the state’s Medicaid ride program or a Medicaid health plan’s rides. See dual eligible.

Two more HCSC plans move to MTM Health this fall

Two HCSC Medicaid plans are making the same switch from Modivcare to MTM Health later in 2026. Each describes itself as a division of HCSC, and each says recurring trips and trips already booked after its change date will be handled by MTM.

What transportation companies should do now

1. Apply to MTM’s network if you are not in it. Use the application on MTM’s service providers page. MTM says it answers quickly when it needs providers in your area and keeps your information on file when it does not.
2. Ask which plans your MTM agreement covers. MTM arranges rides for many Medicaid and Medicare plans, each with its own service area. Our MTM Health provider guide covers its credentialing and trip rules.
3. Take HealthSpring trips only as MTM assigns them. Every HealthSpring plan with rides requires authorization, and most cap the number of one-way trips a year.
4. Close out Modivcare trips for dates of service before March 1, 2026.
5. Update your call sheets. Tell the facilities you serve that HealthSpring rides still book at 1-866-214-5126, now through MTM.
6. Plan for next year. Medicare’s annual coordinated election period runs October 15 to December 7, when members can switch plans for the coming year (42 CFR 422.62). Some of your HealthSpring riders may land in other plans in 2027.
7. Keep more than one source of trips. HealthSpring and two HCSC Blue Cross plans are all switching ride vendors in 2026. See working with several brokers and when a broker changes.
