Aetna Medicare Advantage Transportation Providers: SafeRide, MTM Health, and How to Get Aetna Trips

Aetna Medicare Advantage transportation providers contract with a ride vendor, not with Aetna. As of September 2026, Aetna's Medicare contacts page lists MTM Health for rides and SafeRide only in Arizona, Nevada, and Texas, though two 2026 Georgia plans name SafeRide. Each plan's evidence of coverage names its vendor, so join the vendor named by the plans sold in your counties.

  • Aetna names the ride vendor inside each plan's evidence of coverage, so that document tells you where to apply.
  • Aetna's contacts page names MTM Health for most states and SafeRide for Arizona, Nevada, and Texas, but two 2026 Georgia plans name SafeRide too.
  • Only 90 of 652 Aetna plans sold to individuals include rides, and 78 of those are for people with both Medicare and Medicaid.
  • Florida's 25 Aetna Dual Select and Full Dual Select plans allow 48 one-way trips a year, and the Dual Select documents count a late cancel or no-show as a trip.
  • In Aetna Medicare Dual Extra H2293-021, the transportation money on the Extra Benefits Card goes to gas, transit, and some rideshare, not to trips booked by the vendor.

Aetna sells 652 Medicare Advantage plan options to individuals for 2026, and few of them carry a ride benefit. Only 90 do, and 78 of those 90 are for people who have both Medicare and Medicaid. Aetna does not dispatch the trips. Each plan’s evidence of coverage names the vendor that books them, and that vendor is the company you sign with.

Which vendor books Aetna Medicare Advantage rides

The Transportation services row in chapter 4 of each 2026 evidence of coverage says who runs the benefit. It gives the trip limit and the mile cap, says the benefit “is administered through” a named vendor, and sends the member to that vendor to schedule, change, or cancel. Two vendors appear:

2026 plan Where it is sold Vendor One-way trips a year Miles each way
Aetna Medicare Dual Extra (PPO D-SNP) H2293-021 108 Georgia counties SafeRide 24 60
Aetna Medicare Full Dual Care (HMO D-SNP) H5302-024 157 Georgia counties SafeRide 36 60

Aetna Medicare Advantra Dual (HMO D-SNP) H3959-036 62 Pennsylvania counties MTM Health 24 80

SafeRide’s Aetna member page speaks to Aetna Medicare Advantage members and lists 888-617-0438, the number in the Georgia and Texas plans. MTM Health’s member app page lists “Aetna Medicare (national)” among the plans whose members book through it, as of September 2026.

Georgia does not match Aetna’s contacts page

Aetna’s Medicare contacts page, as of September 2026, lists two ride lines: MTM Health at 1-855-814-1699, Monday to Friday, 7 AM to 8 PM local time, and “SafeRide (AZ, NV and TX, only)” at 1-888-617-0438. Both Georgia plans above still name SafeRide, with Monday to Saturday hours. If you drive in Georgia, ask SafeRide and MTM Health in writing which Aetna plans each one books in your counties.

What Aetna plans cover in 2026

CMS’s plan benefit package file for 2026, dated October 1, 2025, shows where Aetna put its rides. These counts cover the 652 Aetna plan options sold to individuals, with employer plans left out.

Aetna plan type Plans With a ride benefit
Dual eligible special needs plans (D-SNPs) 111 78
Chronic condition special needs plans 46 4
Institutional special needs plans 4 0
Plans that are not special needs plans 491 8
All Aetna plans sold to individuals 652 90

Only 8 of Aetna’s 491 regular plans include rides, with 6 or 12 one-way trips a year. HMOs carry most of the benefit: 76 of the 90 ride plans are HMO options. Only 10 of Aetna’s 309 local PPO options include rides. Every ride plan lists taxi, rideshare, and van as its ways to travel, and the 25 Florida plans add bus or subway. None marks the benefit as needing authorization, and none is unlimited.

The yearly limit depends heavily on the state:

One-way trips a year Aetna ride plans Where they are sold
48 26 Florida (25) and Oklahoma (1)
36 10 Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada, Ohio, and Utah
24 30 Texas (10), Pennsylvania (7), Georgia (3), Louisiana (3), and four other states
12 15 Mississippi (3), California (3), and seven other states
6 9 Pennsylvania (3), California (2), Delaware (2), Kansas, and North Carolina

Pennsylvania’s 11 ride plans include five Aetna Community HealthChoices D-SNPs, each with 24 trips a year.

The Extra Benefits Card is a different benefit

CMS’s 2026 benefit files list transportation a second way in 249 Aetna plans, including all 111 D-SNPs: inside a package of special benefits for members with chronic conditions, paid through a debit card with a spending cap. In Aetna Medicare Dual Extra H2293-021, that package is the Extra Supports Wallet. A member with a listed condition, such as diabetes, chronic heart failure, or chronic kidney disease, can spend the $105 monthly allowance on healthy food, utilities, personal care items, and transportation.

Transportation there means gas at the pump, public transportation, and certain rideshare services, paid by adding the card in the rideshare app. The member pays with the card. Nothing on it books a trip through SafeRide or MTM Health, so in this plan your Aetna work comes only through the vendor.

How Aetna ride rules differ by vendor

The plan documents set different booking windows for SafeRide and MTM Health plans:

Rule SafeRide plans (Georgia, Texas) MTM Health plans (Alabama, Pennsylvania) MTM Health, Florida Dual Select
Booking line 1-888-617-0438, Monday to Saturday, 6 AM to 6 PM 1-855-814-1699, Monday to Friday, 7 AM to 8 PM local time Same MTM line and hours
Notice before pickup 2 business days 2 business days 1 business day
Last change or cancel 24 hours before pickup 1 business day before pickup 2 hours before pickup
Miles each way 60 in Georgia, 100 in Texas 60 in Alabama, 80 in Pennsylvania 60, or longer after plan review if medically necessary

Florida’s Dual Select documents add two rules your dispatcher should know. A late cancel or a no-show counts against the member’s trip limit, the same as a completed ride. And depending on the member’s Medicaid level, the plan may cover trips beyond the 48. See no-shows for how brokers treat a missed pickup.

Every one of these plans also sets these rules:

  • Curb to curb. Drivers are not responsible for helping the member from the home door to the vehicle, or from the vehicle to the destination door. A family member or caregiver can ride along as an escort. See curb to curb.
  • Ready at pickup. The member must be ready when the driver arrives.
  • Two trips per visit. A ride there and back counts as two one-way trips.
  • Approved places only. Rides go to plan-approved locations, such as medical offices and urgent care centers. The Florida plans limit rides to the plan’s service area.
  • The vehicle. The vendor books a taxi, a transport van, or a rideshare service.

How to get Aetna Medicare Advantage trips

  1. List the Aetna ride plans in your counties. Search Medicare Plan Finder by ZIP code. Most will be D-SNPs, marked D-SNP in the plan name.
  2. Read each plan’s Transportation services row. It names the vendor, the trip limit, and the mile cap.
  3. Apply to SafeRide where a plan names it. Its form asks for your NPI, EIN, Medicaid provider number, and whether your company is approved for Medicaid rides. An unfinished application restarts after 30 days. The insurance and driver checks are on our SafeRide Health page.
  4. Apply to MTM Health for plans that name it. Aetna’s contacts page makes MTM the default outside Arizona, Nevada, and Texas. MTM takes applications on its service providers page, answers quickly when it needs providers in your area, and keeps your file when it does not.
  5. Enroll in your state’s Medicaid program too. 78 of the 90 Aetna ride plans are dual special needs plans, whose members also get Medicaid rides through the state’s own program, often from a different broker. Your state guide says who runs those.
  6. Set up the Medicare paperwork. Plan trips make you a downstream entity, with exclusion checks and 10-year record keeping. See Medicare Advantage transportation.

Vendors set their Aetna rates in each company’s agreement. Ask for the rate sheet by vehicle type before you sign.

Group retiree plans

Employer and union retiree plans set their own ride rules. Aetna’s page for Verizon retirees says MTM Health provides up to 24 one-way trips of up to 60 miles each, booked at least 48 hours and up to 30 days ahead, at 1-855-814-1699, Monday to Friday, 7 AM to 9 PM. That is the same MTM number the individual plans use.

Frequently asked questions

Who provides transportation for Aetna Medicare Advantage plans?

A ride vendor that each plan names in its evidence of coverage. The 2026 documents for Aetna plans H2293-021 and H5302-024 in Georgia and H4523-034 in Texas say the benefit is administered through SafeRide, at 1-888-617-0438. The plans for Florida, Alabama, and Pennsylvania on this page name MTM Health, at 1-855-814-1699. Aetna's Medicare contacts page lists MTM Health generally and SafeRide only for Arizona, Nevada, and Texas.

How do I become a transportation provider for Aetna Medicare?

Apply to the vendor, not to Aetna. Find the Aetna plans sold in your counties, open each plan's 2026 evidence of coverage, and read the Transportation services row in chapter 4 to see which vendor runs the benefit. Then apply on SafeRide Health's NEMT provider page or MTM Health's service providers page, and ask whether it needs Aetna capacity where you drive.

How many free rides does Aetna Medicare Advantage give?

It depends on the plan, and most Aetna plans give none. Of the 652 Aetna plans sold to individuals for 2026, 90 include rides, with limits from 6 to 48 one-way trips a year and 24 the most common. A round trip uses two trips. Each trip has a mile cap too: 60 miles in Georgia's H2293-021, 80 in Pennsylvania's H3959-036, and 100 in Texas's H4523-034.

How far ahead do Aetna Medicare members have to book a ride?

At least two business days before pickup in the 2026 Georgia, Texas, Alabama, and Pennsylvania plans on this page. Florida Dual Select plans H1609-046 and H1609-061 need one business day. Change deadlines differ by plan: SafeRide plans allow changes up to 24 hours before pickup, the MTM plans in Alabama and Pennsylvania up to one business day before, and those Florida plans up to 2 hours before.

Do Aetna Medicare rides need prior authorization?

Not for ordinary trips. None of Aetna's 90 plans with a regular ride benefit marks it as needing authorization in its 2026 filing with CMS. Florida's Dual Select plans do send trips over 60 miles to plan review, and may cover them when they are medically necessary.

Can Aetna members pay for a ride with the Extra Benefits Card?

Only members who qualify for the Extra Supports Wallet, and only for certain kinds of travel. In Aetna Medicare Dual Extra H2293-021, a member with a listed chronic condition can spend the wallet on gas at the pump, public transportation, and certain rideshare services added in the rideshare app. Those rides are separate from the trips SafeRide or MTM Health book with transportation companies.
